Microfeathering is the Trend Du Jour—Here's What You Should Know

Semi-permanent makeup is having a major moment right now, and Kait Paige, microblading expert at Boom Boom Brow Bar, is one of the top artists in New York City. Her newest service, microfeathering, is a service for people who want to lightly fill in the brows they already have. Compared to microblading, a more aggressive approach to crafting brows, microfeathering is a technique used for clients that don't need or want their entire eyebrow reshaped.

For the service, Paige matches an exact color to the natural brow shade, and similar to microblading, uses a special tool to make tiny incisions into the brow that look like hair. She uses the existing brow as a starting point, and fills in hair-like strokes where needed. Her signature look is achieving arches where the real hair cannot be differentiated from the microfeathered strokes. At Boom Boom Brow Bar, Paige charges $275 for a partial fill and $500 for the full brow.

"Not everyone is a candidate for microfeathering," Paige says. She suggests listing out contraindications and those who should and shouldn't have the service done on your studio's website. Plus, be sure to properly train before offering any type of semi-permanent makeup service.
