American Beauty: A Perfect 10

THE MAKEUP SHOW CELEBRATES 10 YEARS AS AN INNOVATIVE EVENT AND A DRIVING FORCE BEHIND THE SUCCESS OF MAKEUP ARTISTS AND BEAUTY BRANDS.

It’s been a decade since The Makeup Show launched its first event in New York City in the spring of 2005.

What started out as a small trade show to celebrate the art of cosmetology is now the go-to event for beauty professionals from all corners of the industry. Now, with events in five cities, the show is growing by leaps and bounds. “We are so excited to celebrate the tenth anniversary of The Makeup Show NYC,” says show owner Shelly Taggar. “So far in 2015, The Makeup Show LA and The Makeup Show NYC have achieved record-breaking numbers, and we look forward to continuing this success with our remaining shows in Dallas, Chicago and Orlando.”

At the Metropolitan Pavilion in NYC this past spring, more than 7,000 makeup artists converged for two days of education, community and artistry, with hands-on workshops and seminars offering tutorials for every niche. Workshops included Character Creation Through Makeup Design and Application with makeup and visual artist Joe Dulude II and Red Carpet and Beyond with Daven Mayeda, not to mention keynote speakers like celebrity makeup artists Bill B. and Dany Sanz, who shared their secrets to success.

Makeup enthusiasts and experts alike could let their imaginations run wild on the show floor, where they had the opportunity to visit 85 top beauty brands, including mainstays Smashbox, Make Up Forever and Temptu Pro, as well as up-and-comers such as Kimiko Beauty and Kett Cosmetics, just to name a few. Trending at the show was cream and powder blush in a variety of rose hues and berry-colored lips, but attendees learned that it’s the eyes that will take center stage this fall. “Black liner is back, and it is as big as it ever was,” says James Vincent, director of artistry and education for The Makeup Show. “On every fashion runway and red carpet, black pencil, cream and liquid lines have made themselves known as the must have makeup product.” Next up is The Makeup Show Chicago, which will be held November 7-8, 2015.
