Step-by-Step: Twisted Knot

Creatures of the Wind Spring/Summer 2017 hair by Holli Smith for Bumble and bumble.

Hair Inspiration: “The clothing has a retro feel with borrowed textures and patterns from the 1800s. I wanted to pull a sporty look from that hair but didn’t want everyone to look robotic or the same,” said Holli Smith.

“Lots of girls have cool haircuts – bangs, shags, shaved heads – so we’re leaving them as is and just adding a little product. The other models are wearing a headband with a tight chignon with pieces pulled out from the bun and around the hairline.”

Look 1 – Long hair

  • Spray Thickening Hairspray throughout hair. Apply Brilliantine on the fingertips and rake through hair.
  • *Tip: Holli didn’t use a brush through the hair because she wanted the models to look boyish and less “done”

Products Used: Thickening Hairspray, Brilliantine

Look 2 – Headband with chignon

  • Spray thickening Hairspray and Surf Spray throughout to give the hair a light hold and grip.  Apply a thick, fabric headband and position just behind the ears. Pull hair into a chignon (or small bun) in the back of the head and secure with a hook elastic.
  • Pull pieces of hair out from around the band and the chignon to give the look a sporty, tougher feel. Finish with Strong Finish Hairspray.

Products Used: Thickening Hairspray, Surf Spray, Strong Finish Hairspray (launching in October)
