How-To: Utilitarian Chic

Karen Walker Fall/Winter 2016, hair by Bb.Global Artistic Director Laurent Philippon

Designer Direction/Hair Inspiration: Utilitarian chic with an air of androgyny, inspired by American photographer Berenice Abbott.

“It’s always fantastic to work with Karen because she always tells a story,” said Bb.Global Artistic Director Laurent Philippon. “This season, she was inspired by Berenice Abbott, who was really the first ‘boyish girl.’ She had a graphic fringe and a very short, boyish haircut. What a wonderful inspiration for our hairstyle.”

Styling Methods: Dampen hair with Prep and create a deep side part, tucking behind the ear with pieces left out in front. Spray Thickening Hairspray at the crown and cover with a do-rag to set the hair flat to the head. Models with fine or straight hair received Surf Spray from mid-length to ends for enhanced texture, while thick, dry haired models received Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer to tame. Dry hair all over with a diffuser and remove the do-rag.

Products Used: Prep, Thickening Hairspray, Surf Spray, Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer
