Hair entrepreneur Antoni Cierplikowski has quite an extensive resume. Along with running 67 salons throughout the United States and Europe, he also created the perm, hair lacquer and our ultimate favorite—the bob. However, when he debuted the chin-grazing style at his Paris salon in 1909, I'm not sure anyone could have predicted that it'd still be gracing the hair world more than a decade later.
In today's how-to video, Matt Beck (@freesaloneducation) demonstrates a layered bob with hard lines. I don't know about you, but this cut has us bowing down to mister Cierplikowski for taking a bold chance so many years ago.
Step-by-Step:
- Section the hair three different pie-shaped sections on each side of the head. (mid-crown to behind the ear, occipital bone to behind the ear and the nape)
- In the back, pull hair straight out from the head, add light tension with your fingers and cut cut at a 90-degree angle. Be cautious of the curvature of the nape when assuming your angle.
- When wet cutting, take the weight out first. You can add your hard lines when dry cutting for more precision.
- Focus on fundamental cutting first, and detailing second.
- Blow dry and mold to shape of the head.
- Go in with the tip of the scissor to form hard line at the nape.
- Soften edges with point-cutting technique.
