Leaders in Beauty Honored for Service & Success

The top awards at Cosmetologists Chicago/ America’s Beauty Show this weekend went to industry luminaries Scott Buchanan, Jayne Morehouse, and Lorrene Conino, recognized for business leadership, service, and achievement.

Buchanan, owner of Scott J Aveda Salons in New York City and former chair of the Professional Beauty Association’s Board of Directors, received the Jerry Gordon Salon Business Leadership Award.

Cosmetologists Chicago’s Karen Gordon cited his commitment to salon business education and his demonstration of “the pioneering spirit and leadership this award celebrates.”  

Previous recipients include salon owners Frank Gironda (Frank Gironda Salon & Day Spas), Candy Shaw (Jamison Shaw Salons), Eric Fisher (Eric Fisher Salons) and Frank Gambazza (Salon Visage.)

Morehouse, the President of Jayne & Co. Public Relations and CEO of the Beauty Industry Report, received the Fred A. Piattoni Award for Industry Service.

Noting her long career of beauty-focused journalism and public relations, Cosmetologists Chicago’s Megan Goggin praised Morehouse’s “perseverance, devotion, and spirit of service.” Previous recipients include Pat Parenty (L’Oreal), Hidetaka Yoshikawa (Takara Belmont), and Dr. Farouk Shami (Farouk Systems Inc.)

The newly created Sydell L. Miller – Woman of Achievement Award went to Conino, President of Cosmetologists Chicago and owner of Salon Lorrene in Palatine, IL.

Lauren Spillman and Stacie Halpern, the daughters of Sydell Miller — a philanthropist and the co-founder of Matrix Essentials Inc., who passed in March — presented the award to Conino. 

Conino was chosen for her "compassionate, thoughtful, and courageous leadership" and for exemplifying the attributes of strength and grace that characterized Sydell Miller.

“This significant award inspires me to continue advocating for and elevating women in our community,” Conino said. “This honor deeply touches me.”
