Legendary Stylist Garren Given Icon Award By Met Gala Artists

At the annual private dinner celebrating the beauty artists behind A-list looks at the Met Gala, industry legend Garren was presented the Icon Award for his decades of groundbreaking work and his vision as co-founder of the R+Co and R+Co BLEU brands.

“It’s wonderful," said Garren, who's been called a genius by Madonna and the "Godfather" of hair by Vogue. "I have been reflecting, and have all of these feelings that bring back the journey I went on, and so many great memories along the way."

Over his five-decade career, Garren styled Madonna for her Sex book and worked with the A-list celebrities and supermodels of their time including Audrey Hepburn, Victoria Beckham, Farrah Fawcett, Meryl Streep, Naomi Campbell, Karlie Kloss, Christy Turlington, Claudia Schiffer, Cara Delevingne, and Linda Evangelista.

In 2014, he launched the R+Co premier hair-care brand with co-founders Howard McLaren and his husband, men's hairstylist Thom Priano.

On May 6, the beauty world’s top artists converged at Mr. Chow in New York after the Met Gala 2024 red carpet was complete. What began as an intimate dinner hosted by makeup artist Troy Surratt in a private room 10 years ago evolved into a celebrated tradition among renowned talents in the beauty industry, and is now presented by Violet Grey and Instagram.
