Get the Look: Ayo Edebiri’s Met Gala Updo

In keeping with the 2024 Met Gala's theme "The Garden of Time," Ayo Edebiri made her Met Gala debut in 2024 in a backless floral ombre gown by Loewe, with her hair in a sleek updo created by celebrity stylist Miles Jeffries.

"I used the same hand-painted floral guipure lace from the dress to find the right balance," Jeffries said, "and continue the story of the garden into the hair."

Miles Jeffries used Olivia Garden and Maui Moisture products to create the look.

Step by Step

  • Prep damp hair with Maui Moisture Frizz-Free + Shea Butter Leave-In Conditioning Mist.
  • After thoroughly detangling, section the hair into quadrants, twisting and clipping to keep the hair organized.
  • Using the comb attachment on the Olivia Garden Super HP Dryer, dry and stretch each section.
  • Once hair is dry, spray Nourish & Moisture + Coconut Milk Weightless Oil Mist before flat ironing. Using the mist before hot tools added a layer of heat protection and gave the hair beautiful luster and shine.
  • After the desired texture is achieved, working off a center part, gather the hair into a low ponytail, leaving some pieces loose by the ear to create balance and add softness.
  • Form a bun by wrapping the twisted hair around the elastic and tucking it into the base of the ponytail. Secure the bun in place with pins.
  • Using flower appliqués, sculpt a hairpiece that can be wrapped into place with the hair.
