William Whatley's Top 2025 Resolutions for Hair Stylists

Celebrity and fashion stylist William Whatley, the Education Director at Scruples Haircare, believes hair stylists will thrive in 2025 if they embrace these four resolutions:

  1. Commit to Advanced Education.

Our industry is ever-evolving, and it's important to stay up-to-date on changing trends while growing your professional skills. Check out continuing education like the classes offered through our Scruples Encore Education program based in Houston, which does deep dives into advanced coloring and cutting techniques, styling, and finishing.

  1. Embrace Texture.

Know how to achieve different kinds of texture. The most common type of texturing is accomplished by cutting and razoring techniques that create either volume or sleekness.

Texture Fusion for fine, limp hair using a great waving system will create body and movement and is very gentle on the hair and can be used over color-treated hair.

Of course, hair color gives a completely different kind of texture to the hair, resulting in more fullness, and the color texture helps keep styles longer. This is what we call chemically changing the texture, but we want to make sure that we keep the hair healthy and beautiful.

  1. Invest in Quality Pro Tools.

Make sure you have the very best shears, blow dryer, and any kind of hot tool you can afford. By investing in great tools, it’s going to make the finished look so much better.

  1. Put Yourself First.

To all the incredible, hardworking hairdressers out there — whom I’m proud to share this industry with — please take this final resolution to heart. For years I did not.

The one thing you must do is to recharge to be the most creative stylist for your clients. At least three times a year, take time for yourself to feed your soul so that you can never get burned out.

This industry is amazing. I love it. I’ve been in it for 40 years, but I have learned that I have got to step away at least three times a year for a few days to recharge.

I wish everyone a great and successful 2025!
