Editors Blog: A Dream Salon Come to Life

Over the past few months, I’ve started to redecorate my apartment in all white with gold accents theme for a modern yet homey feel. I’ve combed through every design store, magazine and website in search of inspiration and the perfect pieces to bring my vision to life. And then I walked into the Nexxus New York Salon and found my Holy Grail.

What was once an ordinary shop front in TriBeCa has been gutted and transformed into a space that redefines innovation and cutting-edge design. Every detail of the salon has been painstakingly thought-out by the brand’s Global Hair Creative Director Kevin Mancuso–from the brilliant white walls to the gold-finished outlet covers to the silicone-matted work surfaces to the Takara Belmont chairs right down to the fresh flowers, which Mancuso arranges every day. Even more impressive are the technologically advanced touches like the interactive mirror that holds a client’s hair and product history as well as a state-of-the-art lighting system that mimicks daylight, all while the intimate, atelier feel in 3,500 square feet of open space is preserved.

From the moment I stepped foot in the salon, a sense of movement and fluidity become immediately apparent. The space flows seamlessly from one room to the next--the cutting room into the color room into the wash room--with subtle but discernable environmental cues differentiating each. Everything and anything a stylist could possibly want in their dream salon is realized by Mancuso and a team of superior talents from architecture, design and technology. Currently in soft-launch mode, the salon plans to open full scale once a complete staff and a few design touches are set in place. Can’t wait for the official opening!
