4 Benefits of Being a Text-Only Salon

When Kelly Leahy opened her own salon suite last December, she hired an assistant that also doubled as her receptionist. To make things easier for both of them, McCormick implemented a text-only rule for booking appointments. Fast-forward to today, Leahy and her sister own a seven-chair salon—Revive Hair Salon in Toms River, NJ—and continue to utilize a text-only booking system. Here, she shares the benefits and why it works so well for her.

1. Clients Can Send Photos

Using a text-only system allows clients to send photos of their current hair and what they want done during their appointment. This allows the receptionist to book them for the proper amount of time.

2. Everything is on Record
Sometimes clients show up thinking they had an appointment on the wrong day or at the wrong time. Since everything is communicated over text, it's easy to rectify the situation and see where there was a mix up.

3. Keeping an Eye on Things

As the owner, Leahy likes that she can see what appointments are being booked and what's being said over text even when she's not there. Though she and her staff don't typically answer appointment texts on off days, they have the option to chest messages for cancellations and questions.

4. A Peaceful Salon Environment
Even when the salon is busy, clients can rest easy knowing their appointments and questions can be handled quickly via text. Plus, there's no phone ringing off the hook while they're getting their hair done.
