5 Ways to Say 'No' to a Client Without Hurting Your Business

Saying no to a client can be one of the most difficult parts of being a hairstylist, especially when you're a people pleaser. Here, Dawn Bradley, a business owner and service-based business educator, is sharing five conversation starters that you can use to say no to clients when you need some time to focus on yourself, other clients or other business ventures.

1. "Your hair goals sound awesome and I'd love to be involved, but I can't give your hair the attention it deserves right now. I'm excited to see how it turns out, let me know if you'd like a referral."

2. "My heart wants to say 'YES,' but the reality of my current workload makes this a 'no' for me. Thanks for thinking of me!"

3. "I'm honored by your request, but I'm in a season of 'no' right now. It's hard for me to say no, but so necessary. I'm grateful our relationship allows me to be honest about where I am."

4. "Thanks for your message! I know what it takes to ask these requests, so kudos. I get so many requests that this is a commitment I cannot make. Best of luck!"

5. "No, thank you!"—Yes, it can be that simple.
