Louisiana Will Require Texture Training for Cosmetologists

The future of the hair industry is looking a little bit brighter thanks to a new testing requirement in Louisiana. According to an article on CNN.com, the Louisiana Board of Cosmetology (BOC) recently revised its testing requirements to now include textured hair training throughout the state.

Edwin Neill, chairman of the Louisiana Board of Cosmetology, told CNN that cutting textured hair requires a different technique that all cosmetology students should be learning. By definition, textured hair refers to hair that is kinky, curly, or wavy in its natural state—something that has long been missing from cosmetology curriculum.

The article went on to say that the new requirements will go into effect in June 2022 so beauty schools will have time to implement the training.
