This month, hair color giant Pravana introduces its ChromaSilk VIVIDS Red Hot Palette, as two new shades join its VIVIDS collection. The new additions are Sangria, a deep berry (above, left), and Flame, a vibrant orange (above, right; both by Taylor Rae).
The VIVIDS line is semi-permanent, non-oxidative hair color designed to be used without developer. They can be applied on their own or mixed with other VIVIDS shades for customization.
The new reds are created to complement a variety of complexions and work on hair levels 8+. The formulas are designed to last for 30 washes.
The complete ChromaSilk VIVIDS Red lineup also includes the shades Red, Garnet and Sunstone. Red hair colors accounted for 18 percent of Pravana's total sales in 2022, says the company, an industry leader in semi-permanent hair color.

Application
1. Pre-lighten the hair using a teasylight technique and the Lightening Formula lifting to a Level 8/9.
2. Apply the base formula to the base and in between the foils while the lightener is processing.
3. Process 30 minutes at room temperature while keeping an eye on the teasylights and removing the lightener earlier if necessary.
4. Cleanse thoroughly with PRAVANA’s Intense Therapy Cleanse.
5. Dry the hair completely.
6. Apply the shadow root formula.
7. Create a 1” face-frame section.
8. Create a second 1” section behind the face-frame section.
9. In the face-frame section, melt the shadow root into ChromaSilk VIVIDS Formula 1.
10. In the section behind the face-frame section, melt the shadow root into ChromaSilk VIVIDS Formula 2.
11. For the remaining hair, melt the shadow root into ChromaSilk VIVIDS Formula 3 in the mid-shaft and into ChromaSilk VIVIDS Formula 4 in the ends. Pro Tip: When color melting, take elevated vertical sections for a seamless blend.
12. Process 30 minutes at room temperature.
13. Rinse with cold water and high water pressure until the water runs clear.
14. Apply PRAVANA’s Color Protect Condition and rinse.
15. Style as desired.
**Add extensions for an additional pop of color colored with ChromaSilk VIVIDS Formula 4 melted into ChromaSilk VIVIDS Formula 5.

Application
1. Create a 3” halo section around the entire perimeter of the head clipping the rest of the hair up and out of your way.
2. Utilizing the Lightening Formula and your favorite Global Blonding technique, pre-lighten the halo section to Level 9/10.
3. While the lightener is processing, apply the ChromaSilk HydraGloss formula to all of the hair that was clipped up above the halo section.
4. Process 20 minutes at room temperature while keeping an eye on your lightener rinsing the lightener earlier if necessary.
5. Cleanse the hair thoroughly with PRAVANA Intense Therapy Cleanse.
6. Dry the hair completely.
7. Re-create the same halo sectioning as in Step 1.
8. Divide the halo section in half horizontally.
9. Apply ChromaSilk VIVIDS Formula 1 to the bottom half of the Halo Section.
10. Apply ChromaSilk VIVIDS Formula 2 to the top half of the Halo Section.Pro Tip: Adding Aquamarine to a VIVIDS Blue formula ensures the hair will not turn green if there is slight remaining yellow left in the hair.
11. Process 30 minutes at room temperature.
12. Rinse with cold water and high water pressure until the water runs clear, then apply PRAVANA Color Protect Condition.
13. Style as desired.
