1. Beach Waves

  • Work with clean hair in its natural texture. Create a center part. Working with halo sections, drop down halo 1 inch deep around the head. Clip the remainder of the hair up and out of the way.
  • Mist hair with Redken Iron Shape 11, and place the Sam Villa Pro Results Double-Waver at a diagonal to the hair, compressing all the way down the shaft and working around the head.
  • Continue the same steps, dropping down one 1-inch halo section at a time and working the double waver throughout all the hair.
  • Finish by spraying Redken Wax Blast 10 all over and working through with hands, separating waves and flipping hair over naturally to the desired side or center part.

2. Swept-Back Volume

  • Start with clean damp hair. Apply Redken Guts 10 to base of hair throughout entire head and then work Redken Satinwear 04 through mid-lengths and ends. Comb product through for even distribution.
  • Section hair from front to back. Create a Mohawk section from the recession areas at the front hairline straight back to the high point of the head and clip out of the way. Starting in the back section of the head and using a Sam Villa Signature Series 9 Row Brush for tension and direction, direct the base of the entire back section straight down and back. Smooth the mids and ends with natural volume using the Sam Villa Artist Series Spiral Thermal Brush.
  • At the front sides, take 1 inch vertical sections with the 9 Row Brush and direct the base back, keeping it tight to the head  and finishing the ends with a paddle brush for a soft bevel at the ends. Using dry sectioning clips, clip hair tightly to the head and cool in place.
  • Start at the high point of the head in the Mohawk section and using 9 Row Brush, take 1 inch horizontal sections, elevating the base straight up and through entire sections to the front of hairline, creating maximum volume. Smooth the ends with a paddle brush and direct hair straight back.
  • Apply Redken Powder Grip 03 through the Mohawk and side sections to add hold and a more lived-in feel to the hair, working product through with the fingers and directing hair away from the face. Gather hair at the top and pin into place if needed, gently pinching and leaving volume through the front and top Mohawk. Spray with Redken Triple Take 32 for maximum hold.

3. Big Body Waves

  • Start with clean dry hair and a center part. Apply Redken Guts 10 at the base for maximum volume and blow-dry in, directing hair up using Sam Villa Signature Series 9 Row Brush at the base.
  • Starting at the nape take sections 1.5 inches wide, and evenly mist with Redken Iron Shape 11 over the hair for the heat protection and memory to hold curls. Working with a Sam Villa Artist Series 2-in-1 Marcel Iron and Wand 1.5 inch in wand form, horizontally wrap hair tightly around iron at the base, twisting the wrist with each wrap around to create a strong crescent in the hair. **It is important to make sure that the hair is heated all the way through before removing the iron.
  • Gently slide the iron out while holding the curl formation in your hand. Compressing the curl in between both hands for a few seconds, allow the ends to hang out and relax while clipping the curl into place to cool and set. This allows bonds to set and the hair to have memory in this formation, offering a longer-lasting style. Continue this technique in a brick-lay pattern all the way the to the round of the head.
  • At the round of the head, switch to the Sam Villa Artist Series 2-in-1 Marcel and Wand 1 inch (in wand form), taking 1-inch triangle sections throughout the crown and front. Place the iron diagonally in the section and wrap hair away from the face using the same technique as before—compress in hands, allow ends to relax and clip curl into place.
  • Once completely cooled, spray Redken Fashion Works 12 hairspray all over for brushable hold. Remove clips and brush through each curl using a finishing brush for ultimate shine and smoothness and use your hands to place waves in the desired finish. Lock in the style with Redken Triple Take 32 for maximum hold and no crunch.
