Celebrity Hairstylist Tips on How to Achieve the Perfect Waves

(3 Tips for Beach Waves)

With warm weather right around the corner, beach waves are sure to be in high demand among clients. For most of us, it takes more than a dip in the ocean to achieve the effortless, tousled look, so we’ve asked some of our favorite celebrity hairstylists to weigh in on how to get the perfect mermaid waves at home using UNITE Hair. Share these tips with your clients after their next trip to the salon!

Celebrity beauty artist Chris Georges says beachy mermaid waves are his number one most- requested tutorial. Just ask his client Francesca Farago who says it is her favorite look!

“To achieve the look, I use a flat iron starting a few inches from the top of the head, and make bends in the hair in alternating directions. Remember, you don’t want to drag the flat iron! Remove your flat iron from the hair before bending in a new direction. This will make your mermaid waves last all day long! I love this technique because you can customize your waves giving them a more lived-in, natural vibe. I love to finish the style off with UNITE’s TEXTURIZA Spray to add fullness and volume,” says Georges.

“It’s important to start with a soft, smooth base to achieve this look,” says celebrity hairstylist Hayley Heckmann. “I applied 7SECONDS Detangler before we blow dried to create the perfect base for a soft beach wave," Heckmann says. "Then to finish the look, use SECOND Day Finishing Creme to add a bit of texture to the ends and to smooth any flyaways.”

Celebrity hairstylist Laura Rugetti also loves using a flat iron to create a tousled mermaid look. To get the style to last all day and night, Rugetti sprays each wave with her number one go-to Le:Play Hairspray. Don’t be afraid to have a heavy hand here! The light to medium hairspray offers a buildable yet brushable hold, without any stiffness or crunch. “Then I finish off with TEXTURIZA Spray giving it more volume and texture,” Rugetti says.
