How-To Create a Vintage Summer Blonde

Actress Emma Roberts recently brightened up her locks with the help of Matrix Brand Ambassador Rachel Bodt, who turned her a “vintage summer blonde." She was inspired by icons Monica Vitti and Brigitte Bardot. Here, she shares how she got the look.

  1. I started off by creating a blend of golden and beige highlights and applied a small root shadow, keeping the hairline bright.
  2. I used Matrix’s Light Master with Bonder technology, which protects the hair bonds and keeps fibers strong, while simultaneously lifting up to eight levels. Light Master is pre-mixed with bonder inside, so there are no additional additives needed, which saves both stylists and customers time! I also used Matrix’s Acidic Toners for glossing.
  3. Finally, with any major color transformation, I always tell clients they will need some additional hair TLC at-home to keep the hair healthy. For maintaining a gorgeous blonde at-home in the weeks to follow, I recommend using Matrix So Silver Collection to neutralize brassy warmth and correct yellow tones. This collection also helps enhance blonde and silver hair colors. I also recommend using Matrix Unbreak My Blonde collection, which is a sulfate-free strengthening system for all types and shades of hair that have gone through any kind of chemical lightening process. This 3-part hair system is infused with citric acid, leaving hair 3x stronger, softer and shiner. A must-have!
