How to Choose the Right Color Line

A lot goes into choosing a color line whether you're brand new to the industry or you're wanting to try something new and fresh. From best price to quality to stylist rewards programs, here's a guide to help you decide which color line is best for you.

I have been doing hair for 18 years, and I have pieced together a collection of my tried-and-true products that I have found throughout the years. Let's dive in and go through a few questions to ask yourself so that you can get on your way to finding your collection.

1. Does this brand offer stylist education? Do they offer classes for me, or do they have opportunities for me to travel to their location to attend classes? This should absolutely be included as you partner with a new brand.

2. Can you purchase the product locally or is it only available via shipping? This can absolutely be a factor and whether or not you would choose to go with a brand. If you are a planner and are very organized, shipping might be a great option for you. Otherwise, it's probably easier to pick it up from your local supply house

3. Do they offer introduction kits? So many lines nowadays offer amazing introduction kits! They are typically half price compared to what you would normally pay retail, and you get all the bells and whistles for free. These typically include free developer, color, stylist resources and more. Sometimes they will even buy back your old color line and give you credit towards your new color line. SECRET TIP! Test the product before you purchase the whole line. I always like to test the line by purchasing a level 7 Ash. I feel like you can get a good sense out of level 7 whether it pulls warm or pulls cool what kind of gray coverage it has. This also gives you a very good idea whether the line is true to level and tone. You will see so much about the line just by purchasing a Level 7 Ash. Once you feel confident and you are ready to make your purchase.

Hopefully this information will help guide you in the right direction as you tackle the new project purchasing a new color line. Don't be afraid to try something new and step out of your box just a little, and most importantly, have fun!
