NYFW How-To: Icy Knot

Lacy Redway, celebrity hair artist and Unilever global stylist, created an icy knot for LaQuan Smith's FW '22 show, a nod to the glam of the '70s and '80s with an après ski twist. “I wanted the hair to compliment the glamour that we know and love from LaQuan Smith," Redway said. "We kept it bold, sleek and frozen in place, without a single strand out of place.”

  1. Work prep product through the hair so there is moisture from roots to ends before creating the style.
  2. Apply a high-control gel throughout before brushing hair back using a boar bristle brush to smooth out any texture all the way to the crown of the head. Once hair is completely smooth, secure with a hair tie and split the ponytail in half.
  3. Wrap the two parts into themselves, creating a knot. Secure the knot with hair pins and freeze the style in place with strong hold hairspray.
  4. Complete the look with a shine serum for an icy effect.
