Get the Look: Lizzy Caplan's Emmys Chignon

Lizzy Caplain went for old Hollywood glamour at the 2024 Emmy Awards, where she was nominated for "Fleishman is in Trouble." Celebrity stylist Marcus Francis gave her a loose chignon with face-framing curtain bangs to complement her vintage Yohji Yamamoto strapless gown.

“We wanted to keep the overall vibe feeling effortless, yet elevated," Francis said. "We styled the hair up with a soft finish and an undone chignon to let Lizzy’s dress be the spotlight and her glam stay cool and timeless.”

Products used:

  • PhytoVolume Volumizing Blow Dry Spray ($30)
  • Phyto Pro Style Volume Mousse ($28)
  • Phyto Pro Style Texturizing Powder ($25)
  • Phyto 7 Moisturizing Day Cream ($29)
  • Phyto Pro Style Laque Soie ($38)

Marcus sprayed PhytoVolume Volumizing Blow Dry Spray on damp hair at the roots. Next he applied Phyto Pro Style Volume Mousse to the mid-length and ends. Massaging the product into the hair, he rough-dried the hair to about 70 percent. Then, he used a vented round brush to give lift and volume at the roots and body throughout.

Next he sprinkled the the brand's Pro Style Texturizing Powder throughout the top and crown, massaging it in to give a natural lift.

Keeping a center part and using Lizzy's curtain bangs to frame her face, he pulled the hair into a low ponytail and secured it with an elastic. He then applied a small amount of Phyto 7 Moisturizing Day Cream to smooth and piece out the hair before looping and pinning the ends up and around into a loose, low chignon.

To keep the style feeling soft, he finished by adding face-framing layers, sealing the look with Phyto's Pro Style Laque Soie hairspray.
