Naturally, the human eye is drawn to things that shine, so it makes sense that we would also be captivated by a hair color with similar holographic properties. The newest hair color trend, mother of pearl hair, taking over the beauty scene (and Instagram, of course) involves multiple metallic pastel hair dyes seamlessly blended to create a 3D effect that resembles the inside of a pearl shell.
Piggybacking a series of eye-catching hair trends like unicorn hair and mermaid hair, mother of pearl hair is becoming the latest obsession because of its versatility. Stylists say the look can vary depending on client interpretation and can incorporate anything from an icy-blonde finish with a pearly sheen to a rainbow of muted colorful hues. Mother of pearl hair especially compliments cooler skin tones but, because the hair trend is so varied, it can be executed in a wide range of ways.
PRAVANA Head Colorist Presley Poe crafted a mother of pearl formula using the new Precious Metals collection. To get the iridescent look, Poe suggests mixing equal parts VIVIDS Moody Blue and VIVIDS Rose Gold and applying to the base and nape.
