Transformation Tuesday: Light Brunette to a Hint of Blue

Cutting-edge clients don’t like looking like everyone one else. Blending into the crowd just isn’t their style. That’s why Dylana Suarez (@dylanasuarez), a client of Matrix Stylist Lasha Keller (@lashakeller), decided to add a hint of cobalt blue to her hair. This entrepreneur, blogger and influencer wanted to kick up her light brunette locks with something new for fall.

The Client: Dylana Lim Suarez, a fashion blogger and photographer who lives in New York City, “wanted to go bold and subtle at the same time for fall, and Matrix had the perfect shades to accommodate this request and give her a fresh new look,” says Keller.

The Goal: “She was tired of looking like everybody else. She felt like her hair looked damaged and she wanted a healthier texture. Dylana wanted a transformation that didn’t require bleaching, was demi-permanent and something with a touch of blue that was still subtle and edgy,” says Keller.

The Color: “The Matrix Color Sync Vinyls Cobalt Blue shade was applied with a color melting technique, which allowed the color to be applied and painted in such a way that created a graduated and natural effect, allowing multiple shades of color to be visible,” says Keller. “We applied the color from scalp to ends in the back. Moving to the front where she had the lighter pieces, I applied the lighter formula at the ends and darker formula at the scalp and dry brushed to blend in the color.”

The Style: “For Dylana’s natural look and feel, I used Biolage R.A.W. styling products,” says Keller. First, she applied Biolage R.A.W. Smoothing Milk to ease the grip of a blow-dry and to nourish her hair. Then she created a center part and combed around the hairline, giving Suarez's hair direction. She followed that with a spray of Biolage R.A.W. Texturizing Spray to give her hair definition. And, after using a 1" flat iron to curl hair, Keller brushed the waves, and used Biolage R.A.W. Frizz Control Styling Spray to keep the hair frizz free and protected from humidity. To finish off the look, Keller added a mist of Biolage R.A.W. Texturizing Spray to set and hold Suarez's hair.

The Reaction: “What I love the most with this wash of this cobalt blue, is that it is bold as much as it is subtle,” says Suarez. “It feels more dramatic this way.”
