CBD has been sweeping the nation for quite some time and it's finally making it's way into the hair world. Chicago-based BOSS Hair Group is now offering Chicago’s first CBD Blowout service using CBD-infused haircare.
“As the only professional salon treatment with CBD, it has a powerful impact in helping restore balance needed for healthy hair growth,” says BOSS Hair Group owner and creative director John Blue. CBD is a compound of the cannabis plant and derived from industrial hemp that is free of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). “I was a bit reluctant to hop on the CBD train,” Blue says. “[I] thought, ‘How is this even beneficial for hair?’ Well, after suffering from a dry and itchy scalp due to winter weather conditions, I decided to give it a whirl. After one CBD scalp treatment, my dry and itchy scalp was gone.”
For the CanniBlowDry CBD Blowout, the salon utilizes EMERA Haircare. Blue chose the line for the treatment because of its nourishing components. CBD oil contains a variety of vitamins (A, C, and E to be exact), so the antioxidant properties help protect the hair from external factors. Hydrolyzed vegetable proteins also work to reduce breakage, condition, and add shine. Lemongrass helps preserve color and chamomile, peppermint, and green tea offer nourishment, strength and protection for the hair.
The $75 salon treatment includes a nourishing massage for the scalp, hair, and neck. The scalp massage begins with a scalp therapy cream that calms and nourishes beneath the surface with the blend of nutrient-rich ingredients. After the massage, the hair is then cleansed with an exclusive EMERA shampoo and conditioner, and followed up with a detangling spray that doubles as a heat protectant. After applying a lightweight nourishing serum, the hair is combed out and clients can choose their preference for styling.
“I think what makes this service unique is the scalp treatment that goes along with [the products],” Blue says. “Skin is the biggest organ on our body, and if CBD creams and lotions perform and work miracles on sore muscles, imagine what it can do for the scalp by stimulating blood circulation. I came up with the idea for a CBD blowout because I knew there was a need for it in today's market,” Blue says. “People are seeking more natural products that perform with cleaner and effective ingredients. The benefits go beyond hair care.”
