How To: Suki Waterhouse's Long Tresses From the Met Gala

Celebrity hairstylist Candice Birns used TRESemmé on Suki Waterhouse for the 2023 Met Gala.

“The inspiration was an exaggerated version of Suki's signature look, that effortlessly romantic and cool Bardot," said Birns.

The breakdown:

  • Start with wet hair and use a cocktail of a nickel size of TRESemmé One Step Blowout and one pump of TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Shine Serum.  Apply mid hair shaft to ends.
  • Spray TRESemmé One Step Volume Mist at roots and all over throughout the scalp to create volume and add TRESemmé Extra Hold Mousse. Flip head over and rough dry for max volume so hair is 80% dry
  • Section hair leaving out bangs/fringe and blowdry the fringe first with a flat brush
  • Then, blow dry the rest if the hair side to side till you remove cowlick from the fringe
  • With 1 ¼  round brush softly blow out the fringe
  • Section hair, minus the fringe, and clip the top of the hair section in a 2’’ inch square on top of head
  • Use a 1½  bio-ionic ceramic round brush, brushing upwards to create volume, and when you let go of hair,  twist towards the face
  • Split hair into two sections (one on top of another) using two rollers (or pins) and set the look by blow-drying upwards towards root for maximum volume and body release towards face.
  • For additional volume, repeat the step prior, but this time you’re going to wrap the hair away from face and holding for 30 seconds to set. Twist away from face to release.
  • Repeat through the back of the head pinning each section with pins and or rollers.
  • Let hair cool for 15 minutes then pull pins out starting from where you began for equal heat distribution, so the bounce and curl is even.
  • Flip head forward, shake hair out with hands and fingers and spray TRESemmé Ultra Fine Hairspray everywhere for your finished product.
