Male Call: Gabriel Quinones Tips For Male Clients

CELEBRITY BARBER GABRIEL QUINONES SHARES HIS TIPS FOR HELPING MALE CLIENTS CHOOSE THE PERFECT HAIRSTYLE

Recreating looks for male clients is one of Gabriel Quinones’ biggest challenges and greatest joys. The owner of GQ Cuts Hair Shop in La Puente, CA, and platform educator for Johnny B. Hair Care is no stranger when it comes to helping male clientele choose long-lasting looks that they can wear and maintain at home with minimal products and stress. Whether they’re looking for a complete change or just an evolution of their own style, he always manages to make them happy. “I always get to know what my clients need and what could work for them with an in-depth consultation,” says Quinones. “It’s up to us to show our clients their full potential in the style they’ll be wearing.”

GABRIEL'S CLIENT CONSULTATION TIPS FOR MEN:

1. CURRENT LOOK By growing out the length at the top of their hair, you can create more movement and texture. Let your client know what options they have when it comes to length. I always like to know what my clients are willing to do in the morning when they get themselves ready. Maybe too much length is going to be a hassle to style, so something less lengthy would be the way to go.

2. COMFORT When looking at the sides of the hair, we must consider how much our clients are willing to cut off. In some cases, clients do not like to show skin, so leaving just a little bit of length to create a short sideburn creates a comfortable level.

3. LONGEVITY AsmuchasIwanttosee our clients come back more often, I want the hairstyle to last as long as it can in-between visits. So encourage making the length on the sides a bit shorter if our clients are okay with that. Maybe take it a few levels shorter in length than the client is used to. If you can suggest  a long-blend transition from the sides into the length up top, the hair will grow back consistently, and the style will remain intact.

4. PRODUCT I want clients to be comfortable and proud of the product they use in their hair. I find out if the client wants shine, high shine, or more of a matte finish. If your client admits to running his fingers through his hair daily, then maybe pomade is the best option. If your client doesn’t want to worry about his hair and wants something that simply keeps it intact, consider the many different gel options.
