Oribe Hits the Runway at New York Fashion Week: Men's Fall/Winter

After a stint of international pit stops, New York Fashion Week: Men's descended on the city that never sleeps. The biggest takeaway? A cold winter day in New York City doesn't hinder fashion in the slightest. 

Showcasing a collection of brands from all over the world, the men (and a few ladies) took to the runway combing high-fashion style with streetwear, and while the looks were all worth writing home about, we couldn't take our eyes off of their hair.

Styled by Oribe Haircare and a talented group of Oribe Educators, the men hit the runway rocking everything from surfer-boy chic hairstyles to clean, middle parts with sleek waves. Here, the stylists give us step-by-steps for each of the runway styles: 

Bristol F/W 2018 | Hair by Christian Ceja-Compin 

Bristol’s Fall/Winter 2018 collection was inspired by the designer’s grandparents who emigrated from Japan to the United States post World War II. To depict this, Oribe Educator Christian Ceja-Compin paired short crops, matte texture and natural movement with the relaxed, muted street wear.

Get the Look:

  1. Prep with Foundation Mist and Maximista Thickening Spray from root to ends.
  2. Power dry the products in at the root using fingers.
  3. Work Sculpting Cream in with fingers from root to ends to create texture, bend and movement.
  4. Pulsate Dry Texturizing Spray in at the root.
  5. Place butterfly clips to lay the hair flat and eliminate volume.
  6. Diffuse and finish with Thick Dry Finishing Spray to mold texture.

Diplomacy F/W 2018 | Hair by Davide Marinelli 

The Diplomacy aesthetic embodies individual street style mixed with pieces that are timelessly chic. Mimicking the style of the collection, Oribe Educator Davide Marinelli enhanced each model’s natural texture. For the short-hair models, Davide gave military cuts and finished with Star Glow Styling Wax for reflection.

Get the Look:

  1. Prep hair with Foundation Mist.
  2. Diffuse hair and stretch each strand by hand for added volume.
  3. Apply Dry Texturizing Sprayat the roots for body.
  4. Finish hair with Shine Light Reflecting Spray for extra shine.

Wood House F/W 2018 | Hair by Dan Nguyen 

Preaching a new mindset and a take-charge attitude, this season’s Wood House presentation was acid punk electrified. Oribe Educator Dan Nguyen went all out with neon spray-painted hues on the hair that enhanced the theme of individuality and strong youth culture.

Get the Look:

  1. Prep hair with Foundation Mistto wake up the texture.
  2. For a lived in look, apply Grandiose Hair Plumping Mousse to the bend of the hair.
  3. For longer lengths, apply Curl Control Silkening Crème and finish with Gold Lust Nourishing Hair Oil.
  4. Use Featherbalm Weightless Styler for a light finish.

P.L.C. New York F/W 2018 | Hair by Louis Orozco 

Oribe Educator Louis Orozco created polished hair with a strong fringe to complement the beautifully tailored, monochromatic suits in the P.L.C. New York presentation. Chunky, separated bangs and strong lines were cut into each model’s hair prior to styling.

Get the Look:

  1. Wet hair with Foundation Mist.
  2. Apply Rock Hard Gel to wet hair to achieve a sleek, shiny look.
  3. Spray Superfine Strong Hair Spray to set and diffuse the product in.
  4. Finish with Rough Luxury Molding Wax in the front to make fringe chunky and separated.

David Hart F/W 2018 | Hair by Kien Hoang 

Long hair, short styles, buzz cuts and severe bangs were all seen at David Hart’s Fall/Winter 2018 presentation. Oribe Director of Training & Content Kien Hoang made sure to promote the designer’s Parisian theme by cropping the hair, focusing on the sideburns and re-defining the hairline to frame each model’s beret.

Get the Look:

  1. Apply Foundation Mistto remove cowlicks and redirect the hair backward.
  2. Add Crème for Style in and hand dry to mold.
  3. Finish with Maximista Thickening Sprayto enhance texture.

Life in Perfect Disorder F/W 2018 | Hair by Dan Nguyen 

Life in Perfect Disorder was inspired by the aspirational idea of cool kids on a Saturday night. Oribe Educator Dan Nguyen help set this scene by accompanying each alternative look with lived-in hair and a matte finish.

Get the Look:

Women

  1. Prep hair with Foundation Mist.
  2. To get an organic bend in the hair, add Curl Shaping Mousse for moisture, twist hair on both sides into rope braids and power dry.
  3. Bend hair into vertical flat waves with a curling iron.
  4. Apply Dry Texturizing Spraygenerously from roots to mid-shaft.
  5. Finish hair with Airstyle Flexible Finish Cream for subtle separation of strands and a satin finish.

Men

  1. Prep all hair textures with Royal Blowout Heat Styling Spray.
  2. For longer lengths, apply Run-Through Detangling Primer or Curl Control Silkening Crème depending on texture.
  3. Finish with Dry Texturizing Sprayand Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray

Maiden Noir F/W 2018 | Hair by Mandee Hernandez

Drawing inspiration from the Sucia Island Reverie in the Pacific Northwest, Oribe Educator Mandee Hernandez created styles for the Fall/Winter 2018 collection of Maiden Noir on both male and female models. She created a world where island vibes met ’80s flare.

Get the Look:

Women

  1. Prep hair with Maximista Thickening Spray and blow dry through with a flat brush.
  2. Using a 5/8-inch curling iron, curl hair and set.
  3. Release curls and spray with Thick Dry Finishing Spray. Brush out to expand and volumize hair.
  4. Finish with Soft Dry Conditioner Spray and Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray to create shine-free strands.

Men

  1. Prep hair with Maximista Thickening Spray and Featherbalm Weightless Styler.
  2. Blow dry hair with the dryer facing inwards for a natural, airy finish.
  3. Set with Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray.

Taak F/W 2018 | Hair by Kien Hoang 

This season, the Taak collection took couture components and transformed them into street wear. Oribe Director of Training & Content Kien Hoang was tasked with turning individual hair textures into a pulled-back, uniformed samurai style in order to complement the clothing.

Get the Look:

  1. Apply Straight Away Smoothing Blowout Cream on dry hair section-by-section.
  2. If the natural texture is an afro, pick it out and flat iron with Royal Blowout Heat Styling Spray.
  3. Create a natural off-center part and pull the hair back into a tight undone knot with the ends as asymmetric spikes.
  4. Pick out flyaways along the hairline and spray with Foundation Mistand Superfine Strong Hair Spray for a wet look.

Krammer & Stoudt F/W 2018 | Hair by Louis Orozco 

In a twist on the conventional Men’s Day expectations, Karmmer & Stoudt turned to an all-women model cast to showcase their Fall/Winter 2018 collection. Oribe Educator Louis Orozco cut and styled the woman with a masculine, modernized pompadour à la James Dean and Elvis Presley to match the ’40s-inspired suits.  

Get the Look:

  1. Prep with Foundation Mist.
  2. Apply a combination of Maximista Thickening Spray and Gel Sérum and blow hair out using hands. If hair is straight, use a small round brush to get a bend in the hair.
  3. Sprinkle in Swept Up Volume Powder Spray around the front root area.
  4. Finish with Rough Luxury Soft Molding Paste or Fiber Groom to mold the pompadour, avoiding over exaggeration.

Descendant of Thieves F/W 2018 | Hair by Christian Ceja-Compin 

For the Fall/Winter 2018, the Descendants of Thieves collection was inspired by the modern-day fox hunt and English tradition. With the model as the fox and the audience playing the hunter, Oribe Educator Christian Ceja-Compin split the cast in two to create a dandy style and a punk look.

Get the Look:

Dandy

  1. Prep with Foundation Mist.
  2. Apply Maximista Thickening Spray from roots to ends and power dry.
  3. Create a strong side part and push Rough Luxury Molding Wax through hair using a comb.
  4. Pin hair down to create flatness and diffuse.
  5. Spritz a highlighting comb with Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray and tame hairline edges.

Punk

  1. Prep with Foundation Mist.
  2. Apply Maximista Thickening Spray from roots to ends and power dry.
  3. Flat iron with Imperial Blowout Transformative Styling Créme.  
  4. Place Rough Luxury Soft Molding Paste on palms and go back through to rough up at the root, creating a slight bend at the front.
