Dry Spell

Whether in the salon or at home, it’s important that clients adjust their haircare regimen for the cold winter months.

As we approach the thick of winter, you may start to notice that your clients’ hair is mirroring the weather: parched, dull and lifeless. “Cold months wreak havoc on clients’ hair, drying it out and oftentimes splitting ends,” says Organic Salon Systems Technical Director Rebecca Gregory. These problems are only exacerbated with blasting furnaces, steaming showers and extra frizz-induced heat styling. That’s why moisture-intense treatments are the perfect way to help clients greet the new year. “Think of how busy you are from summer to Christmas,” says Paul Mitchell Vice President of Education Stephanie Kocielski. “The last thing you pamper is your hair.” Kocielski recommends the 10-minute in-salon Awapuhi Wild Ginger KeraTriplex Treatment to strengthen and condition strands and seal cuticles. Another great treatment that provides immediate results is Leonor Greyl’s SOH HairSpa Treatment, a four-step remedy to purify and nourish hair. “Unique to this treatment are the cupuacu and manketti nut oils, which counteract the harsh effects of winter air and wind,” says Caroline Brooks, director of sales. O’right’s Purple Rose Essential Oil Treatment Set for in-salon use, available through Organic Salon Systems, comes with six bottles of organic rose essential oil and 12 packets of pH-balanced cream conditioner, allowing stylists to create a custom formula for each client. “It smells delightful and clients will love the attention to detail paid to them with a personalized formula,” Gregory says. The scalp- and hair-reviving essential oils and plant actives in Aveda’s Botanical Therapy Salon Treatment can also be customized to meet clients’ needs, according to Aveda Artistic Director of Hair Cutting Ricardo Dinis. “Whether wintering in New York City, Dallas or Miami, we can tailor a treatment to individual guest needs,” he says. Clients can also nourish and repair dry strands at home with the retail products below, all formulated to infuse moisture to winter-weary hair. ✂ —Brianna Keefe
