Frédéric shows how to create the next wave in today's very sexy hairstyles.

This season, forget about the flat iron. The modern femininity that's ruling the runways for spring and summer calls for a return to soft, bouncy, natural-looking waves. This means that stick-straight hair is not only passé, it's been replaced by voluminous, shiny, healthy-looking coifs with plenty of movement and texture. And you can up the "sexy" quotient even further by incorporating side-swept bangs.

The right products and tools are key for creating today's touchable curls and waves that you can easily run your hands through. On clients whose stubbornly straight hair requires a little more effort, I generally like to work in a curl-enhancing lotion before setting the hair on Velcro rollers. Or to coax naturally curly manes into sleek waves, I rely on straightening balm and a great shine-enhancing serum to help calm the curl pattern and control any frizz.

To create my take on the modern wave trend, start off by washing hair with products designed to add volume and create texture, such as my new Frédéric Fekkai Luscious Curls Shampoo and Conditioner. After setting hair on rollers, place a small amount of Frédéric Fekkai Full Volume Mousse into the palms of the hand and evenly distribute it throughout. Flip the head over and dry the roots; then flip the head back to the upright position, spritzing the roots with a volumizing spray such as my Instant Volume Spray. Place a Frédéric Fekkai Extra Large Round Brush, which features natural boar bristles, against the scalp and lay a section of hair over it. Blow-dry the hair starting at the roots and working down the ends to smooth strands and prevent frizz. Repeat the step on all remaining hair sections until dry. Finish the style by lifting up hair sections at a 60-degree angle, placing the round brush against the scalp and beneath the sections, and drying them before misting the style with some of my Sheer Hold Hair Spray to lock in volume.
