Natalie Portman is earning rave reviews and generating Oscar buzz for her performance in the ballet thriller Black Swan, and her look at the New York City premiere of the film dazzled critics as well. Hairstylist John D. was inspired by the glamour of her off-the-shoulder Dior dress to create soft, sensuous waves. "The hair was beautiful and helped balance the total look," John D. said, "especially since the bottom of the dress was so full."
To achieve the style, John D. prepped the hair with Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream then blow-dried it with a round brush for volume at the roots. "I used Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream for its soft hold and hydration," he said. "Natalie has naturally curly hair, and it needs extra moisture to look its best. Since she's constantly getting her hair done for events, it can easily dry out." The stylist then used a 1-inch curling iron and curled round sections all over her head, starting in the back of her head. He set the curls with Luminous Hairspray to fight the humidity on the rainy night. After her hair cooled, he sprayed a paddle brush with hairspray and used it to separate and loosen the hair. "This also tamed the curls at the same time," John D. said. He gave Portman's hair a finishing touch with Glimmer Shine Spray.
