Get the Look: Our Favorite Met Ball 2012 Hairstyles

On Monday, the highly anticipated Met Ball in New York City celebrated the Met’s new exhibition, Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations, for renowned Italian designers Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada. Here are some of our favorite looks from the A-list attendees at the event, along with the steps to recreate them. —Aja Edwards

Ginnifer Goodwin

Ginnifer Goodwin, star of ABC’s Once Upon a Time, wore a custom Monique Lhuillier tangerine silk chiffon gown. Using Oribe Hair Care products to style her sleek crop, stylist Anh C. Tran applied Aprés Beach spray to damp hair, and then blow-dried it with a small round brush to smooth out the hair. She then worked a nickel-sized amount of Gold Pomade through the top of the hair and down the sides and back, running her fingers through the hair to create movement. Tran finished by spraying the look with Impermeable and Superfine Hair Spray.

Garrett Hedlund

Garrett Hedlund looked dapper in his chic Prada suit, complemented by his classic, slicked-back hairstyle, created by celebrity stylist Anna Bernabe using Oribe Hair Care products. First, Bernabe prepped Hedlund’s hair with Foundation Mist, then added Gel Serum and combed it through. She then blow-dried the hair back and added Rock Hard Gel with more Gel Serum. She finished the style with Soft Lacquer Hair Spray to keep the hair shiny and in place throughout the night.

Marion Cotillard wore her wine-colored Dior gown with a dramatic modern updo styled by celebrity stylist and Moroccanoil Global Brand Ambassador Robert Vetica, who says he was inspired by the sci-fi thriller Blade Runner. After blow-drying the hair, Vetica pulled it to the back and created a loose French twist, using his fingers to scrunch and deconstruct the texture of the twist before pinning it in place. To finish, he sprayed Luminous Hairspray Strong on the entire style for a natural-looking hold.

Christina Ricci

Christina Ricci paired her Thakoon gown with a sleek chignon styled by celebrity stylist Ted Gibson. To achieve the style, Gibson used his signature hair care products starting with an application of Build It Blow Drying Agent and Fix It Gel on damp hair. After blow-drying the hair, Gibson flat-ironed it and created a deep side part. He then pulled the hair into a tight ponytail and fashioned it into a large chignon in the back, pinning in place. Gibson then sprayed Beautiful Hold Hair Spray all over the style.

Ivanka Trump

Ivanka Trump left her classic middle part behind for the Met Ball and debuted blonde locks with blunt bangs to accompany her Peter Pilotto gown. Using Oribe Hair Care products to create the look, celebrity stylist Alexa Rodulfo first dried the hair after prepping it with Maximista, then, sprayed sections of hair with Superfine and curled them with a 1-inch iron. Next, Rodulfo divided the hair into a triangle on top from the bangs to the crown and created a loose bun in the back with the rest of the hair. She then sprayed Dry Texturizing Spray on the triangle section, teased the crown for volume and covered the bun before misting the hair with Superfine to complete the look.

Ashely Greene

Ashley Greene graced the Met Ball in a Donna Karen Atelier white Grecian gown that paired perfectly with her soft, wavy locks styled by celebrity stylist Ted Gibson. Using his namesake products to create the look, Gibson first worked in Fit It Gel into the hair and used Hair Sheet Styling Sheets over her entire head. Next, he blow-dried the hair and curled 2-inch sections with a medium-sized iron to create soft waves. Finally, Gibson sprayed Beautiful Hold Hair Spray and tousled the finished look with his fingers to give Greene an undone, beautiful style.

Mary-Kate Olsen

Mary-Kate Olsen wore an all black gown from her label The Row with a romantic updo styled by celebrity stylist Charley Brown using Wella Professionals products. To achieve the look, Brown applied Stay Brilliant Color Protecting Lotion then blow-dried with a diffuser. Brown then separated the hair into four triangle sections, mixed Create Character Texturizing Spray with Ocean Spritz Beach Texture Hairspray and patted down each section. He then shook out each section, crossed them to the top point, twisting the hair into a knotted bun. Brown drew out intentional flyaways on the hairline then sprayed Stay Firm Finishing Spray to keep the hair in place.

Emma Stone

Emma Stone wore a cherry red satin Lanvin gown complemented by a simple bun and side-swept bangs styled by Mara Roszak using Matrix products. Roszak started with damp hair, applied Total Results Amplify Wonder Boost then blew-out the hair with a medium-sized brush. Roszak worked Design Pulse Mega Dust into the roots, gathered Stone’s hair into a ponytail at the top of her head and secured it letting the front and sidepieces fall out. Roszak teased the roots, loosely pinned the hair into an undone bun and swooped the bangs across Stone’s forehead, securing them to the side with a Lanvin hair accessory and finished with Total Results Amplify Hairspray and Biolage Color Care Shine Shake Spray.
