Profit-generating techniques and trends packed the program at the Kao USA Portfolio on Tour.

Fashion, education and entertainment were in no short supply at Kao USA’s Portfolio on Tour, featuring an acclaimed roster of artists from Goldwell Hair Color, KMS California Hair Care and the Arrojo Studio Team. Held in May at the Hyatt Regency Long Beach, the event drew more than 200 beauty aficionados.

Kicking off the evening program was Goldwell Lead Artistic Director and North American Team member John C. Simpson, who shared the results of the brand’s Supernatural campaign against box haircolor and introduced the crowd to the Goldwell Masterpiece concept that involves creating works of art for clients. “Strive for perfection each and every time in the salon, and as soon as you achieve it, begin again so you continually learn,” Simpson said.

In the next segment, Goldwell Artistic Director and North American Artistic Team member Dimitrios Tsioumas joined Simpson to present Color Zoom Beautify, a collection that pairs unexpected hue combinations to achieve brilliant results.

Also spotlighting current trends was the Arrojo Studio Team, who shared curl techniques. For her part, Sonna Brado, KMS California director and North American Artistic Team member, used a range of KMS California products and techniques, including layering, deep point cutting and texturizing, for a variety of fashion-forward hair looks.

On day two, attendees experienced a KMS California JamFest with the brand’s National Technical Training Manager Simon Miller. During the hands-on class, Miller kicked creativity into high gear, demonstrating cutting-edge styles for beauty pros to recreate.

“All who attended left with a thorough understanding of the predominant hair and color trends as well as the high-fashion-meets-street and cultural influences that are taking the globe by storm,” Simpson said.
