Internationally renowned stylist Kevin Murphy hosted the sold out “Super.Natural” runway show and education event on November 6-7 at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas. Nearly 1,200 salon professionals from around the world came to see Murphy share the highly anticipated reveal of four new 2017 collections: SUPER.NATURAL, CASTAWAY, K.MEN and COLOR.ME. Attendees were also inspired by several other industry professionals and icons who presented different looks, concepts and techniques connected to the changing fashion landscape, in addition to keynote speakers who offered business advice.
“We loved bringing the SUPER.NATURAL concept to our audience through this show,” says Murphy. “The idea behind the show was to offer insights to the audience that looked natural but were very clearly manufactured. To us, ‘supernatural’ means more than being ‘natural’ or ‘better than natural.’ We chose this idea because people are looking more often for natural-looking solutions for their hair through styling, cutting and color.”
Murphy brought the 2017 collections to life onstage with styling demonstrations that were influenced by classic imagery from decades past, including nostalgic eras such as the ‘50s, ‘60s, and ‘70s as seen through a 90s lens. Murphy added butterfly broaches and bindis to the hair as embellishments, which paired beautifully with the colorful fashions from the Spring 2017 runway. Murphy also introduced several new products, including the highly anticipated SHIMMER.ME.BLONDE.
On day two, a series of breakout experiences were available to attendees, offering custom, tailored education led by Murphy and his team of talented team stylists and educators. Classes offered included men’s haircutting and trends, editorial color techniques, Facebook marketing for independent stylists and managers taught by social media thought leader Mari Smith, and a session on how to elevate everyday looks to award-winning cover shots with Tony Ricci. Attendees also loved the live photo shoot led by Murphy, who showed them how to achieve beautiful editorial looks.
