Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2014 NYC: Alon Livne

For his spring/summer 2014 collection, Alon Livne was inspired by Grace Jones, the many illustrations of Peter Sato and Samurai Soldier costumes. Together, these three themes generated bright, futuristic clothing marked by strong graphic lines. To complement the look, Catwalk by TIGI Global Creative Director Nick Irwin created a braided style that extended all the way down the scalp.

To achieve the look, he prepped hair with Catwalk by TIGI Sleek Mystique Fast Fixx Style Prep to condition and eliminate frizz. Next, he sectioned hair in five even, vertical sections and reverse-French-braided each section, keeping braids close to the scalp. To keep the braids free of fly-aways, he used Session Series True Wax. After this, he secured each braid and sprayed with Your Highness Weightless Shine Spray to provide a vinyl look. When the entire head was braided, he gathered and twisted the bottom of the braids into a swirled bun and secured with pins. To set the look, he used Sleek Mystique Look-Lock Hairspray. In addition, Irwin used a bit of white eye shadow to the scalp to make braids pop.

For makeup, Rogelio Reyna used Bobbi Brown Cosmetics to create a look like the models just came from the spa. The key was hydrated skin and no mascara in order to create a minimalist look that did not compete with the clothing. Nails were led by Jacqueline Saulsbery, who applied a nude China Glaze polish to fingers and toes.
