Mercedes-Benz Spring 2013 Fashion Week NYC: Kimberly Ovitz

It was all about Nomads for the Spring 2013 Kimberly Ovitz show at Pier 57, my first show as a part of the Spring 2013 Season for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.

The shows lead make up artist Gina Betelli for M.A.C. Cosmetics said the Spring 2013 Kimberly Ovits woman is a girl that designs her own mythology. Her look and her feel is organic and tribal.

Antoinette Beenders, Aveda global creative director, certainly got the nomad look down with hair of numerous textures. Beenders created a sleek look in front with a scrunched up romantic element for the back. The look was created by separating the hair into two equal sections and fishtail braiding each section, then twisting the fishtail braids into one solid coil. Beenders then pulled pieces out of the coil to muss up the perfection, thus giving it an organic feel; the end was then secured with much backcombing.

To aide in the texture and hold, Beenders used Aveda Control Force Firm Hold Hairspray. The mirror-like shine for the front was achieved with Brilliant Spray On Shine.

Betelli kept the makeup ethereal and raw with the eyebrows as the focal point of the look. "The brows are very '80s/90's," Betelli said who also noted that Ovitz herself was the muse for the brows. "She has great brows that go up."

To achieve the look of the brow, Betelli brushed Pro Eyeliner Mixing Medium in clear throughout the brow and upwards. Prior to the brows, the face was prepped with Studio Moisture Cream and then M.A.C. Mineralize Moisture Fluid foundation was applied for overall coverage. The cheeks were sculpted with Coffee Walnut PRO Sculpting Creme.
