New and Notable

Paying homage to the Y-3 and Jil Sander aesthetic, Lina Arrojo for Arrojo Studios has introduced a new collection called IndiVisual. The centerpiece of the collection is the "new shag." Featuring a new sectioning pattern and spiraling, windmill-shaped layering technique, it's a different kind of disheveled, layered cut. Shaggy on one side, sleek on the other, it gives hair extra capacity for fullness and body and can be easily tailored to different lengths. —M.D.

Endless Possibilities

Talk about thinking outside the box, er, bottle. CND's biggest launch in the past decade includes 50 new shades and 15 special effects that allow you to create more than 800 combinations. The bottle has been redesigned as well—the striking new shape is the first thing you notice. The ergonomic, rubberized cap can be removed with one hand, while the flat brush goes all the way to the bottom of the bottle so there's no waste. Even the formula has been improved; it's richer and dries faster. —M.D.

Designing Woman

Barbara Giuliano is a former hairdresser who has reinvented herself as a jewelry designer. Each piece, from earrings and bracelets to pendants and lariats, is handcrafted. Giuliano favors kazuri beads from Kenya, Italian coral, Murano glass, black onyx, amethyst and turquoise, and she adds Swarovski crystals to nearly every piece. Visit —M.D.

We asked Steven Norton, music buff, editorial stylist and owner of Fly Salon in Raleigh, NC, what he's been listening to.

"Temperamental" by Everything but the Girl. "This song not only provides inspiration, but it is also high energy. I usually play it around 5:00 p.m. and into the night to keep me going on those long days at the shop."

"Magnolia Mountain" by Ryan Adams and the Cardinals. "Ryan's soulful voice is always easy and makes for a relaxed mood when the salon is busy and I need to shift down."

"Boxcar" by The Rosebuds. This is one of my favorite tracks from a Raleigh-based band that always gets me moving. I love the gypsy beat and lyrics that are perfect for sparking the creative brain.

"Reckoner" by Radiohead. "My spirit is complete when I hear this song. I can listen to it anytime—morning, noon or night."
