The five-city #OribeAtelier education tour recently concluded at Milk Studios in Los Angeles. The event featured Oribe’s “Journey to Mastery” education, which was developed by the Oribe Education Team with rotating special guests. The tour was designed by Oribe Global Ambassador James Pecis, and included stops in Portland, Chicago, Las Vegas and Nashville.
For the Los Angeles portion of the tour, Oribe educators Coby Alcantar, James Pecis, Louis Orozco and Kien Hoang took to the stage, inspiring attendees by demonstrating and sharing different techniques that can help refine their styling and cutting abilities. The one-day event included demos, a hands-on segment, photography session and ended with a cocktail hour.
“The whole idea is that ‘Journey to Mastery’ is going to give you the tools to do anything,” said Alcantar. “We cover everything—the latest trends, texture, cutting and more. Trying to always be inspirational, up-to-date and current, but also having these fundamentals that are very usable and help people work more efficiently. I love being on stage and connecting with every stylist in the audience, which makes teaching very rewarding and fun.”
When asked where her sources of inspiration come from, Alcantar said it’s always a combination of editorial and street style along with content shared on social media by peers. “I think of hair like a pair of jeans—the wash, the waist and the bottoms change all the time, but the styles always come back,” said Alcantar. “You’ll see different versions of an old classic, but it’s never exactly the same.”
