Our Town

1. Salon Surreal

Teamwork and talented stylists separate Salon Surreal from others in the area, according to owner Suzy Noren, who bought the salon in 2004. While hair services are by far the most popular at the salon, other services, including makeup application, airbrush tanning, manicures, massage and facials, are also in high demand among clients.

The modern decor of the 5,300-square-foot salon features an abundance of curves, colors and artwork throughout. Women, men and high schoolers flock to the salon because of its talented staff, who are educated in the most fashion-forward trends, and because of the salon's involvement in various community and neighborhood events. "We help raise money for Habitat for Humanity," Noren says. "Every year we also have two spa parties for teachers from the local high school, where they can get their hair done for free. This event attracts many new clients."

2. Pin-Ups Salon

Stylists at Pin-Ups Salon attend bimonthly education to keep up-to-date on new hair trends and refresh their current knowledge. "We all work really well together as a team," says owner Kristen Mclean. "It's a very inviting and welcoming atmosphere here."

The 1,400-square-foot salon features a classic yet modern decor with a chandelier in the front, bamboo screens throughout and black-and-white photographs of "classic women who represent what glamour is all about, like Marilyn Monroe," Mclean says. From haircuts, color and facials to in-salon events, Pin-Ups Salon offers something for everyone.

3. Perry Monge SalonSpa

"Our customer service and our technical expertise is what I believe makes us so successful," says owner Perry Monge. "Our stylists are trained on a daily basis to offer our clients the level of service they deserve."

The 2,400-square-foot Aveda Lifestyle Salon and Spa offers a variety of hair and body services, including haircuts, color, body treatments, massages and facials. The chalk-white walls, accented with orange and brown throughout the salon, create a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. The salon is known for its talented stylists, including Marina Leon, winner of the recent Vidal Sassoon "Timeless Classics" contest, who work to satisfy every client. "We have a very strong commitment here to make every service all about the clients who walk in the door," Monge says. "We work to superexceed every clients' last visit."

4. Salon Estique

"We understand our clients' needs and do all we can to try to meet them," says Salon Estique co-owner Brenda Barnaby. From haircuts and color to skincare, waxing and nail services, the 3,600-square-foot salon truly embodies the term "full-service." Clients enjoy the urban loft feel of the space, complete with wood floors, windows that bring in a lot of light and artwork from local artists. "I wanted our clients to feel like they are walking into their living room," Barnaby says.

In addition to partaking in various charitable events for such organizations as Locks of Love and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the salon also holds Meet and Greet events, which allow students from local cosmetology schools to interview and gain insight from assistants and managers at the salon.
