PBA’s Coast-to-Coast Sandy Relief Efforts Help Rebuild Beauty in the Northeast

October 29, 2012 was the day Hurricane Sandy hit the Northeast hard, leaving a path of destruction behind for hundreds of beauty professionals and salon owners. Only a month ago the salon industry came together in an unprecedented show of unity and support to raise awareness and money for our beauty colleagues left to rebuild following this devastating storm. During the “Hairdressers Helping Hairdressers” benefit, more than $170,000 was raised for the Professional Beauty Association’s (PBA) Disaster Relief Fund(DRF).

“When times are tough, our industry helps our own and we will continue to do so now and in the future. I speak for so many when I say thank you to those who contributed to this event and the PBA Disaster Relief Fund,” stated Steve Sleeper, PBA Executive Director.

We still need your help and support!

Money raised through the benefit’s on-line auction and generous donations has already been dispersed to many beauty professionals in need. To date, the PBA Disaster Relief Fund has given out close to $100,000 to victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Brittany Romano from Manahawkin, NJ, received funds from the PBA Disaster Relief Fund, which she used to replace furniture in her salon that was destroyed from Sandy. “This money is a huge help in getting my salon back to one piece and will definitely speed up our recovery. I am so grateful!”

The New Year has already come and gone, but we cannot forget about our fellow beauty professionals still struggling. PBA is continuing the momentum from the “Hairdressers Helping Hairdressers” benefit to allow professionals on the West Coast who want to help with the Coast-to-Coast Sandy Relief benefit.

During the week of January 13 – 19, PBA encourages salons all along the West Coast, and across the U.S., to pledge their support to their friends and salon community in the Northeast by fundraising and donating to the PBA Disaster Relief Fund.

Here are a few fundraising ideas
  • Contribute $1 for every client serviced during that week
  • Contribute a percentage of your service dollars during that week
  • Hold an event that week to raise money
  • Solicit fundraising dollars from your clients with the salon matching their donation
  • Sell a red ribbon with safety pin (the color of disaster relief) and donate the funds raised
