Talk to the Paw

Every dog has his day, and Uno had his at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show held at Madison Square Garden in New York City in February. The underdog was the first beagle to win Best in Show in the club's 132-year history, and he got a standing ovation. We sure do love our pets in this country. In fact, U.S. spending on pet services—everything from doggie day care to pet massages—has doubled to $2.5 billion in the last five years. When Harrods in London held its fifth annual Pet-a-Porter Dog Show recently, top dogs strutted down the catwalk (pun intended) wearing Vivienne Westwood. Meanwhile, the Jentle Pet Spa from MTI Whirlpools features five-point massage jets, hot and cold temperature controls and shelves for shampoo. I don't even have a dog and I'm thinking of ordering one.

Now John Paul Mitchell Systems' CEO John Paul DeJoria and business associate John Capra have collaborated on John Paul Pet, a line of pampering products for your pooch, including shampoos, conditioners and pet tooth and gum wipes. "Our goal is to increase the number of animals experiencing products that are good for them and that improve the quality of their health and care," says DeJoria, who has been a longtime animal activist.
