MODE SALON

Microsoft workers can now easily go from geek to chic with the opening of Mode Organic Salon at the company's Redmond, WA, headquarters. The first beauty salon to open on the campus of a major corporation, Mode wasn't originally sold on the idea. "When we were first approached and asked to make a presentation to Microsoft, we were definitely flattered and also a little concerned that it wouldn't be a good fit for us," says Joe Carling, founder of Mode Organic Salons, whose two other locations in Seattle have been named among the city's best salons by Allure and The New York Times Style Magazine. "Then we found out that Microsoft was making huge efforts to become a more green company and our interest really piqued." In fact, the entire West Campus Commons, which houses the salon, was built to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) specifications.

The brand-new 2,200-square-foot salon and mini-spa features vaulted ceilings, 60-foot windows offering incredible views, state-of-the-art treatment rooms with shoji sliding doors, and a lighted Lumicor and bamboo reception desk. Haircolor services are performed using Organic Color Systems and ammonia-free CHI Ionic Permanent Shine Hair Color, while stylists use Simply Organic and Kevin Murphy hair products. The salon also offers organic face and body treatments with éminence Organic Skin Care and Sophyto products, along with a menu of massages, hair removal, and manicures and pedicures. —L.M.
