What do you do to give back?

David Guerin, owner of The Cutting Room Salon in Albany, OR, recently traveled to Mexico with a group called Hairdressers On a Mission. On the nine-day trip, Guerin and the other hairdressers visited impoverished neighborhoods and orphanages, including Gabriel House, a children's orphanage, and the Cannon Instituto, a beauty school in Vincente Guerrero, to share their expertise; offer haircuts, products and equipment; and provide advice about caring for the hair. "The impact we made on these people's lives does not compare to the impact they made on our lives," Guerin says. "To be able to be a part of their world gives me a piece of their life, and for that I am thankful. I will continue to be there for them." —N.P.
