Young Americans: Molly Tremante

Molly Tremante knew instinctively that she’d found the ideal outlet for her creativity the moment she began working at a local salon in her teens. Today, the KMS California Artistic Team member and stylist at Plush Hair Studio in Glenville, NY loves engaging with like-minded professionals who want to grow their skills. “I also enjoy customized looks for clients,” Tremante says. “For me, the start-to-finish process is what makes me tick. There’s nothing better than analyzing head and face shapes, profiles and focal points.” ✂ —Kelley Donahue

What inspires you?
Fashion week! Hair is fabric, so being able to witness those two worlds merge is beyond inspiring.

AHA MOMENT

At age 14, my mom got me a job at a salon to alleviate some of my teenage angst. That experience resulted in my becoming the go-to person for haircuts in high school. I did hair anywhere I could get my hands on it! That’s when I knew I had a true love for hairdressing.

IN TRAINING
I eventually got my license at age 17. Seven years of experience working behind the chair led me to my next step: the world of education within KMS California.

BEAUTY MUST-HAVES

I’m all about dressing hair, which begins with a foundation and ends with finishing. My desert island products are KMS California Hairstay Style Boost, Freeshape 2-in-1 Styling + Finishing Spray and Hairplay Playable Texture.

STYLE PREFERENCES
The always-relevant 1920s—a time when Louise Brooks’ classic A-line bob was acclaimed for its true craftsmanship.

MY MENTOR
Simon Miller, Lori Panarello, John Simpson, and all my fellow KMS California and Goldwell colleagues.

BIGGEST CHALLENGE
Time: I constantly try to find a healthy balance between my roles of daughter, sister, friend, educator and stylist behind the chair, while leaving a little time for myself.

BEST PIECE OF ADVICE I EVER GOT
“Stay true to who you are and stay humble.” Thanks, John C. Simpson, for the inspirational pep talks you’ve given me!

GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT
On a personal level, it was purchasing my first home. Professionally, it was participating in Portfolio On Tour. Sharing the stage with a roster of talented artists was not only on my bucket list, it was also the learning experience of a lifetime.

NEXT STEP
Entering the North American Hairstyling Awards with my sister Doria, an incredible makeup artist. For me it’s not about the competition, it’s about being able to say I showcased my passion and craft with my best friend.
