How to Give a Female Client a Cut With Clippers

If you thought clippers were just for barbering, think again. Kristi Faulkner, an educator for Wahl, often uses clippers on her female clients in lieu of scissors. She finds them extremely versatile because they can be used for a variety of trends and styles, from texturizing layered looks to short, precision cuts. In addition to providing a polished, tailored finish, clippers also shave extra time off each look, freeing up your chair for the next client. Here, Kristi provides a step-by-step guide for this client’s style, which was cut entirely with clippers.

1. Starting at the nape,I taper from shortto long using myhalf, one, one-and-a-half, and two-inch cutting attachment combs.
2. With my numbertwo attachmentcomb on the clippers,I turn my clippers over, cutting with the grain to remove bulk from the sides and the back.
3. I use my cordless Magic Clip for the entire haircut and then cut the top, using my clippers the same way I would use my shears.
4. I finish the haircut with my Wahl detailers to give a precision edge in the back and around the ears, leaving the hairline on the neck tapered off.
