Curl Profile When you think of tight curls, think of a corkscrew. “They’re like those old-school telephone cords, looping around in a perfect coil,” says Lauren Moser, Ouidad Brand Ambassador. Clients with this curl type should be encouraged to embrace the natural spring in their curl structure. “You can really play with the shape. Twirl it around your finger and make it even bouncier, or pull the curls apart creating amazing volume,” says Moser. This curl type also blows out easily with a brush, creating a wavy texture.
Curl Pitfalls The tight shape of this curl makes it hard for natural oils to travel down the hair shaft, making this curl type lack natural moisture and extremely prone to dryness and frizz. “Of all the curl types, you’ll see the biggest variety of curl tightness on this client’s head,” says Moser. “One area could have looser curls, while another area has super tight curls. To create curl uniformity, try cutting those straighter pieces a little shorter than the other tight curl pieces.”
